Kurbingui Youth & Family Development is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
Established in 2001, we have continued to grow in the number of services delivered to the community in areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement, support targeting successful educational outcomes for families and children and young people from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women and men, cultural group activities, social, emotional well-being – suicide prevention, crisis response and treatment and health and nutrition.
The Social, Emotional & Wellbeing Practitioner provides non-clinical therapeutic support and advocacy and links people to appropriate services based on their needs. The Practitioner conducts intake and assessment processes using screening tools to support clients to work through psychosocial barriers and coordinate further services and resources. The candidate must be able to consult and liaise with internal and external services to ensure appropriate intervention support exists. Kurbingui’s programs are targeted specifically to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community to provide support and assistance that is culturally safe and responsive, reflect community and family strengths, local needs, leadership and cultural knowledge.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in the role:
- Demonstrated professional experience and in-depth understanding of the overall issues and needs facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals in a contemporary society within local, rural and remote communities.
- Previous experience in a similar role with a focus on mental health.
- Demonstrated experience working in mental health, with and supporting vulnerable Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, children and young people either who have attempted or are at risk of suicide.
- Demonstrated experience in working with clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, substance abuse, intergenerational trauma and trauma grief and loss.
- High-level problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a high performing team.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own workload.
- Effective communication skills – written, verbal and interpersonal; with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to use business technology, internet and desktop applications. For example, MS outlook, Word, Excel spreadsheets, and database packages.
- Qualifications and/or equal professional experience in the area of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care practice or related profession.
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Current Drivers License (QLD)
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a ‘Positive Notice’ Blue card
- Have or willing to undergo a Police Check Possession of or willingness to obtain a “Yellow Card”
This full time position offers a competitive remuneration package in line with the ‘Fisher’ & ‘316 Regulation’ pay scale and Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.
