About Kurbingui Youth & Family Development
Kurbingui Youth and Family Development is a not-for-profit community service organisation that offers support to First Nation’s and Torres Strait Islander families within the Greater Brisbane, Moreton Bay and South-East Qld regions.
We deliver various community services around employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement programs, education support for families and children from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women’s and men’s programs and cultural group activities, and health and nutrition.
Kurbingui has just branched out into another area and we are now supplying National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services governed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), including providing support workers and consultation around managing your NDIS plan. Our aim is to support participants to maximise their funding and ensure that the correct supports are in place to empower those who have a disability and/or their parents and carers to ensure they are supported with experiencing community life and being supported to attend important meetings and events and complete everyday activities. We support building independence, and the right for them to have individual choice and control over the NDIS plans by promoting and supporting social inclusion and community participation through individual and/or group support activities.
About the Role
The role of a Support Worker is diverse and can range from transporting participants to everyday activities to supporting them to complete tasks in home. The support is provided on an individual basis and in small or large group settings, in home or at Kurbingui’s sites or in the community. Support Workers have a critical role in providing high quality, safe and effective supports, which assist participants to enhance their quality of life, maximising their ability and opportunity to exercise choice and control over their plans.
Most of our work is completed during the day, but at times you may be required to work evenings, weekends and public holiday pertaining to client needs. We are looking for applications from experienced support workers residing in the Greater Brisbane, Moreton Bay and Southeast Qld regions.
The types of support we provide include but are not limited to:
- Assistance with completing daily activities
- Supporting Community access
- Providing transport to and from appointments and community activities
- Assisting with Cooking tasks
- Assisting with Cleaning tasks and
- Advocating on behalf of the participant in some cases with various agencies.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in the role, you will need to
- Have a general understanding of First Nation and Torres Strait Islander culture and ways and the issues which have impacted on their general well-being in contemporary society.
- Previous experience in a similar role utilising a strengths-based framework addressing complex family needs.
- Professional or lived experience working alongside someone with a disability or developmental delay.
- An understanding of the disability sector and person-centred practice.
- Excellent communication skills, reporting skills, and a compassionate approach to work.
- Experience managing challenging behaviours, complex physical disabilities and mental health challenges and good conflict resolution skills.
- Have the ability to work a variety of shifts including short shifts on weekdays, evenings and public holidays.
- Knowledge of the NDIS and an understanding of the National Standards for Disability (desirable).
- Demonstrated experience and skills in conducting safety and risk assessments.
Qualifications/Certifications
- Mandatory – current Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Evidence of COVID vaccination or contraindication must be provided prior to commencement
- Mandatory – possession of, or ability to obtain, a ‘Positive Notice’ Blue card – must be obtained / provided prior to commencement
- Mandatory – Yellow Card or NDIS Worker Screening Check – must be obtained / provided prior to commencement
- Mandatory – Must have Registered, roadworthy car with comprehensive insurance
- Desirable – qualifications and/or equal professional experience in mental health, disability, aged care, allied health, social work, community services.
- First Aid and CPR – or (willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
- Highly Desirable -Cert III in Individual Support (or willing to commence upon employment))
- Have completed the NDIS Workers Orientation Module (or willing to complete upon commencement)
- A current National Police Check
Remuneration
This position offers a competitive remuneration package in line with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2020.
Roles are currently offered on a casual basis with the view to progressing to PPT as hours increase.
We will have work in the following areas but not limited to: Moreton Bay regions, Woodford, Caboolture, Wamuran, Kilcoy, Brisbane Northside and the Logan region.

Employment is conditional upon maintaining clear personal history screening checks prior to and throughout employment. A Blue Card and Yellow card (NDIS screening check) must be obtained prior to commencement and proof you have completed the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
