Family Wellbeing Practitioner – Yeaca Dhargo Family Wellbeing Program

Full-Time contract position for 6 months Maternity Leave

About our Organisation

Kurbingui is an Aboriginal community based and driven not for profit organisation that offers service to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, families, children and young people living within the Greater Brisbane, Moreton Bay and South East regions.

Kurbingui currently delivers various community services covering areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement programs, education support for families and children from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women’s and men’s programs and cultural group activities, and health and nutrition.

The Role

The primary purpose of the Youth & Family Wellbeing Practitioner is to provide quality culturally appropriate professional case management and casework to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families who are accessing the service. This is achieved through offering support, facilitating practical intervention and prevention techniques and strategies from a cultural strength-based and family-led decision-making approach that enhances an individual’s capacity and empowers families to sustain positive changes with their parenting and overall relationships.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures, and a general understanding of the issues that are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society.
  2. Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills (especially in relation to Indigenous youth, families and communities) including the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  3. Demonstrated experience in working effectively with youth, families, children and external sources/agencies.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in the delivery and support of early intervention.
  5. Demonstrated high level, or ability to acquire, understanding of child protection in Queensland including the significance of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles, relevant legislation, policies and practices in relation to the role of Youth & Family Wellbeing Practitioner.
  6. Demonstrated time management skills, with the ability to balance and prioritise various client engagement, administrative and reporting requirements including the use of various databases.
  7. Willing and able to work within a culturally competent context and Kurbingui Youth Development’s mission, vision and values.
  8. Additionally, please outline your exposure, expertise and/or skills in each of the following areas (in any industry):
  • mental health
  • domestic and family violence
  • group engagement
  • FLDM (family-led decision-making)
  • child protection
  • early childhood
  • youth justice

Qualifications/ Certifications

  • Qualifications and/or equal professional experience in psychology, social work, community services, youth work, early childhood with a focus on child protection.
  • Blue Card / or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid and CPR.

Based in Zillmere, we offer a competitive remuneration package in line with the ‘Fisher’ & ‘316 Regulation’ pay scale and other conditions in line with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

Employment is conditional upon producing a current Blue Card as well as maintaining clear personal history screening checks prior to and throughout employment.
