SQW Traineeships Now Open

We offer paid, 20-week traineeships in Certificate I in Construction and Certificate I in Workplace Skills, designed to equip Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander & Job Seeker participants with practical, hands-on experience, accredited training, and personalised support.
You’ll gain essential skills, industry-recognised certifications, and access to employment opportunities—all while earning and learning in a culturally safe and supportive environment. These traineeships are proudly funded by the Queensland Government and delivered across multiple Kurbingui locations through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.
Certificate I Construction (CPC10120)
A Certificate I in Construction (CPC10120) is an entry-level qualification that prepares participants for a range of support roles in the building and construction industry. While it doesn’t qualify you as a tradesperson, it gives you foundational knowledge, practical skills, and safety training that help you take the first step toward a career in construction. Here are some entry-level jobs or pathways you can pursue with this certificate:
- Construction Labourer
- Trades Assistant
- Construction Site Cleaner
- Traffic Controller (with extra training)
- Warehouse/Store person (Construction Supply)
Pathways to Apprenticeships or further training:
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying or Block laying
- Painting and Decorating
- Plumbing
- Civil Construction
Certificate I Workplace Skills (BSB10120)
A Certificate I in Workplace Skills (BSB10120) is an entry-level qualification designed to build confidence and essential skills for people starting out in the workforce. It focuses on communication, teamwork, basic digital technology, and workplace practices, making it ideal for those looking to gain employment or move into further training. Here are some entry-level jobs or pathways you can pursue with this certificate:
- Office Assistant
- Receptionist (Junior)
- Customer Service Assistant
- Data Entry Clerk
- Hospitality or Community Support Roles
Pathways to Apprenticeships or further training:
- Business
- Community Services
- Health Administration
- Retail Services
- Education Support
Eligibility
Eligible participants must be 15 Years or older and no longer attending school. Participants must reside in the Brisbane or Ipswich City Council boundaries and must be capable of attending their Traineeship in Zillmere for 5 days a week, for 20 weeks. Participants must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident (some visas do apply). Participants must not be working Full Time and be able to commit to the entire program.
