Applications are now open for enthusiastic candidates interested in starting a career in library services for Brisbane City Council’s 2023 traineeship program.

Our libraries are a hive of activity and in this role, you can expect to be as busy as a bee!

We will give you the training, support and mentoring you need to get involved in a range of library tasks such as:

  • Providing good customer service by gaining knowledge about our wide range of library services and products
  • Assisting customers face to face and over the phone
  • Locating and shelving items from the collection
  • Assisting in delivering learning programs (including IT skills, literacy and children’s programs)

This role will interest you if you:

  • are keen to learn about the workings of a modern, busy local library
  • enjoy working with others in the team environment and in a multicultural community
  • enjoy assisting customers and helping people
  • take pride in and ownership of your work

You don’t need prior experience in libraries or customer service, and we’d love to hear from you if:

  • you are curious and motivated to learn the skills to work in libraries
  • be willing to travel to and from a variety of locations across Brisbane, as our trainees rotate locations in one region in Brisbane (North, South, East and West) throughout their traineeship
  • have a minimum of Grade 10 level Maths and English
  • combined in-class training and on the job learning with experienced trainers and mentors appeals to you
  • you are committed to completing your training modules throughout the year
  • you are reliable and organised
  • you have good communication skills

After completing your formal training and hands-on learning you will have:

  • a nationally recognised qualification (Cert III Business Administration traineeship)
  • valuable work experience
  • developed your communication and self-management skills
  • developed a new social and professional network
  • gained a solid grounding and skill set to apply for future roles within Brisbane City Council or other organisation
