DFV Month Candle Lighting Ceremony

May is Domestic and Family Violence Month. Candlelight vigils are held across QLD on the 6th May to honour those who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence.

Last night 5pm – 6:30pm, Numula team (Penny and Stephanie) along with other Kurbingui staff (Joanna, Kia, and Tina Carter) attended the candlelight ceremony at Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre.

The ceremony consisted of:

  • Welcome to Country by Aunty Sharon Malone
  • Guest speaker Senior Sergeant Andrew Himstedt (Officer in charge of Moreton District Domestic and Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit, QPS)
  • Candle Lighting Ceremony. (4 candles were selected for this vigil to represent women, children, and men who have died as a result of ultimate act of domestic and family violence).

This ceremony is to acknowledge the experience and the journey of those who have been affected by violence and abuse in their lives. On behalf of Kurbingui, we showed up, to Stand United, and to show our support and acknowledge those lives lost.
