Youth and Cultural Activities

  • This project has a crime prevention focus which strengthens links for young people with their schools; family; social networks and connection to positive and healthy recreation. We are working developmentally with local youth in collaboration with other youth agencies to build a range of participation opportunities on Friday evenings for the 13-17 years age group.

 

  • An annual community touch football match is played with local police as a means of improving relationships with Queensland Police.

     
  • Our Annual Black Diamonds camp at Emu Gully in September school break provides leadership skills for young people.

·         Engages with young people to participate in NAIDOC celebrations.

·         After school activities in public space.

 

The objective of the Cultural Program is to engage young people and community members in cultural learning opportunities that strengthen young peoples identity and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions and culture.

An 8 week experiential cultural learning program  - "Forgotten Cultures Hidden Secrets" aims to engage young people in traditional dance, art, cultural practices whilst working with local community elders to strengthen their cultural identity.
