Family
Violence Program
The
Family Violence project is aimed at creating a community response to the problem
of violence in our community in an effort to reduce the impact on all members of
the community. Family and domestic violence has occurred in Indigenous
communities as a result of many factors: substance abuse, the impact of
colonisation, health issues, trauma and the resulting loss and grief,
unemployment and lack of education and training.
Our model of operating is to build and strengthen relationships with existing
agencies and networks that provide support and counselling to individuals and
families. We also link our clients to other activities offered by Kurbingui in
order to broaden social networks and provide healthy and positive participation
opportunities.
