Employment and Training

Employment  and Training involves participants on our Work Placement Projects and the general public who require assistance with gaining employment.

A Work Placement is a work-based program enabling participants the opportunity to get back into a cycle of going to work, restore self-esteem and practice new skills in a work environment in order to maximise employment opportunities upon completion.

The Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation funds organisations to provide employment , for approximately 20 weeks for the long-term unemployed people and those at risk of experiencing long-term unemployment.

The construction work placement is held offsite at a community organisation.  Each project has different requirements of what is to be done but generally the skills learnt are:-

  • use of power tools

  • concreting

  • painting

  • building styles and techniques.

 Adult Numeracy & Literacy

Kurbingui employs trained staff to tutor Numeracy & Literacy for Adults.  Numeracy and Literacy is embedded in all projects across Kurbingui.  Within the Employment & Training section the staff provide:-

  • A numeracy and literacy assessment

  • Individual support

  • Group learning

  • Volunteer Numeracy & Literacy Tutor Training – for members of the community wishing to assist in tutoring Numeracy & Literacy.

If you or anyone you know is in need of assistance with improving their numeracy and literacy skills, Contact Ra on (07) 3265 2055 to make an appointment.
