About UsWho are we A professional not for profit community organisation delivering support services to the Indigenous community in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. Our Mission
To address
the disadvantage and poverty experienced by the Indigenous community including
non Indigenous young people in achieving their rights of passage to a safe and
secure future in the community. Through the provision of programs and services
designed to alleviate isolation poverty discrimination and unemployment.
Our Journey Kurbingui Youth Development Association was formed as a result of expressed needs identified through the participants and their families who supported and participated in the Kurbingui Boxing Club. We are a not for profit organization managed by a management team of Indigenous committed community members who voluntarily support the strategic development of the organization.
The name ‘Kurbingui’ is from the ‘Turrabul’ language meaning ‘transition from boy to man’ which demonstrates our original purpose of providing healthy and positive lifestyle pathways and opportunities for young people and their families.
The Association was incorporated in 2001 and today, we employ nine staff to implement a range of programs aimed at improving the quality of life for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families in the outer northern suburbs of Brisbane.
